DARKNESS PICNIC – Pratiche di abitazione nel paesaggio
curated by DOM-
DOM- is a research project born in 2013 from the collaboration between artistə Leonardo Delogu and Valerio Sirna. DOM- investigates the language of the performing arts, contaminating it with the militant approach of the Environmental Humanities and with the instances and imaginaries of feminist and queer ecologies. The research revolves around the relationship between bodies and territories, investigating the knot of permeability and observing
how power, nature, culture and marginality interact in public space.
From 29 May to 1 June 2025, the company DOM- will inhabit the city of Nuoro with the project ‘DARKNESS PICNIC – Pratiche di abitazione nel paesaggioʼ, articulated in a series of meetings dedicated to the themes of its artistic investigation, workshops and performances.
The programme of meetings open to the public and hosted in the halls of the MAN – Museo dʼArte Provincia di Nuoro museum on 29 and 30 May, includes a cycle of projections of video-documents made by Studio Azzurro around two creations: Lʼuomo che cammina, a work with which DOM- made its debut in 2015, winner of the Critical Network Award in 2019, a landscape performance whose formats have travelled through several cities in Italy and abroad, and Désert / a ritual for in transition landscape, a performance that analyses the forms of the great migrations of the nomadic peoples of the desert.
On 30 May, the masterclass Il capitalismo è morto, facciamo un picnic (Capitalism is dead, letʼs have a picnic), conducted by Leonardo Delogu and Valerio Sirna and addressed to performers and people with or without experience in the performing arts, will also take place.
Following its recent premiere at the Spring Rolls festival in Turin at the end of April, and its debut at Motus’ Supernova in Rimini, the new work by the company DOM- entitled DARKNESS PICNIC will be presented in Nuoro on 31 May and 1 June. Loosely inspired by the novel Picnic at Hanging Rock by the writer Joan Lindsay, from which the cult film of the same name directed by Peter Weir (1975) was based, in this work DOM- invites the spectators to a collective exercise of rest and suspension, interweaving research on the gesture of walking and nomadism with the theme of the light inhabitation of public space.
