Sentimental1 is Cristina Kristal Rizzo’s new choreographic project, taking the form of a solo performed by the artist herself. A new exploration that centres on the performer’s presence and her chameleon-like ability to traverse emotional planes and practise absolute freedom of form, poetically recalibrating what resonates with maximum intensity between feeling and the act of performing. Within this framework lies the notion of the ‘sentimental’, understood not as emotional overload, but as a perceptual mechanism that allows the body to embrace affective fluctuations and tensions without translating them into rhetoric. The ‘sentimental’ thus becomes a form of measured openness, a regime of attention that renders micro-variables of human experience legible and, at the same time, brings out its political dimension.
