Il Margine
Kelly Ardens
Il Margine is a tale in the making about mental health.
A tale because Kelly Ardens, its chaotic storyteller, starts from her own experience and life as a person with borderline personality functioning. In the making because it feeds on emotions and contradictions and asks questions that are perhaps unanswered but remain vibrating in the air, sometimes light and volatile, sometimes heavy as a boulder.
Il Margine is the world of the protagonist and a new narrative for the people who experience, not a ‘disorder’ or ‘suffering’, but the condition of neurodivergent people. That world of ‘crazy’ people, so far from what is considered ‘normal’.
The audience will be invited to watch and listen, immersing themselves in the everyday life of the performer: in her epic acts of pain, in her small and large gestures that make her feel good, and in her multifaceted art, including tarot cards, coloured crayons, cigarettes, false eyelashes and what she hides in her Hello Kitty bag.
Dedicating her favourite songs, rattling off the ‘Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders’, laying bare the truths of her spiritual journey, Kelly imagines Il Margine as an open construction site, where anything is still possible.
Or as Bell Hooks would say: ‘A place capable of offering us the possibility of a radical perspective from which to look, imagine alternatives and new worlds […] A space of resistance. A space I have chosen’.
