BOGA (elementary pieces for the burning of the Temple)
Cristina Kristal Rizzo e Enrico Malatesta
BOGA (pezzi elementari per l’incendio del Tempio) e is a performance based on the revisitation of a series of pyrotechnic devices and traditional celebrations centred around bamboo and the Meriam Buluh: largely unknown to Western audiences, the famous bamboo cannon is a noise generator used in various popular and religious festivals, and popularised in the 1990s as an illegal handmade toy in rural areas of Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.
The performance, starting with a modified and prepared version of this instrument, and a series of ephemeral and sonorous pyrotechnic devices, generates sound and light, and takes the form of an urban ritual and celebratory outdoors in relation to the field of action of the two performers involved, percussionist Enrico Malatesta and dancemaker Cristina Kristal Rizzo.
