The work takes the form of a narrative, a movement of body-to-body interaction, which aims to amplify and give space to the intrinsic possibilities of sign language.

Long marginalised and alienated by phonocentric power structures that have sought to abolish it throughout history, Italian Sign Language (LIS) is a human, living, physical language; it speaks not of margins but of new forms.

Monumentum DA explores the relationship between language (signs) and expression (dance), observing the blurring of boundaries between these two semantic realms. LIS and Diana’s body constitute an archive of documents in constant transformation; we might call them ‘linguistic monuments’ that form a narrative in which the politics of a body converge in a vital impulse – and thus reconnect with the shared history of a momentary community.

It is therefore a matter of reconsidering the expressive potential of all bodies and opening up a space in which diversity is a pure expansion of possibilities.

The performance is designed to be accessible from the outset, its form allowing it to be enjoyed by both deaf and hearing audiences.

On the day following the performance, the ‘Forte Forte’ workshop will take place: physical practices, methods, postures and dialogues in the search for a dance that is attuned to the expressive power of bodies and to sharing.
The workshop is open to both deaf and hearing audiences thanks to the presence of a local sign language interpreter.
